Mary Kathleen Young

M. Kathleen Young, 82, Johnson City, went to be with the Lord on Thursday January 22, 2009 at the Christian Care Center after a long battle with heart disease. A Bakersville, NC native, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Ruth (Slagle) Young. Kathleen was an active member of Central Baptist Church where she was a member of the Margaret McNeese Sunday school class. She was a 1943 graduate of Bowman High School in Bakersville. Kathleen retired from the bookkeeping department of Parks-Belk after working nearly fifty years. Kathleen is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, John M. and Dolores Young, Johnson City; a niece and her husband Denise and Dennis Davenport, Johnson City; three nephews and their wives, Mark and Cindy Young, Johnson City; Bruce and Revonda Young, Asheville, NC, and Michael and Marcia Young, Pelham, MA. Eighteen great nieces and great nephews, a great great nephew, and an aunt, Jean Lansche of Johnson City also survive. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 2:00 PM from Central Baptist Church. Dr. Ronald F. Murray will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour before the service. A graveside committal service will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
