Mary Marie Hankla

Mary M. Hankla, 84, Limestone, passed away Monday, October 30, 2017, at Life Care Center of Gray.

Mary was born in Hawkins County to the late Edward David and Amanda Lou Carpenter Sliger.
Mary was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Shanendoah Presbyterian Church.
You could often find Mary in the kitchen because she enjoyed cooking. She loved many things including flowers. Mary held her family and God close to her heart and loved them dearly.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by: one grandchild, Shane Hankla; one son-in-law, Clayton Brown; and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include: her husband of 61 years, Howard Hankla, of Johnson City; three children, Curtis Hankla and his wife Peggy, of Erwin, Phyllis Jones and her husband Bruce, of Limestone, and Pam Brown, of Johnson City; two grandchildren, Monica Smith, of Erwin, and Barbara ?Barbie' Jones, of Limestone; six great grandchildren; one sister, Bessie Mae Sliger Livesay and her husband Dale, of Bean Station; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Caris Hospice for their care and Dr. Kevin Sweet because Mary loved him.
The family of Mary Hankla will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Morris-Baker. The funeral will follow at 2:00 PM with Mr. Larry Shropshire officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at Washington County Memory Gardens at 3:00 PM Thursday for a graveside service. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
