Mary Nell Lee Mary Nell Payne Lee of Johnson City, TN passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Pine Oaks Assisted Living. She was born November 17, 1911 in the Pleasant Valley Community to Lafayette Marion Payne and Rebecca Emma Toone Payne. She was the youngest of 8 children: Vernon, Ruth, Edgar, Walter, Bess (Grayson), Fred, and Maude Payne. She attended Keeblers Institute at Jonesborough, TN and East Tennessee State Teachers College (ETSU) where she earned a teaching certificate and taught elementary school for a number of years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Susanna Wesley Sunday School Class. In addition to her parents and siblings, Mary Nell was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Robert E. (Bob) Lee and a son David Pat Lee. She was an avid reader until her eyesight began to fail and she enjoyed visiting with friends and relatives. She was dearly loved by all who knew her and she retained a remarkable memory until her death. She is survived by a son, Michael Payne Lee and wife, Mary Hope Lee of Johnson City; six grandchildren Robert David Lee, Huntsville, AL, Jonathan Michael Lee and wife Sarah Woodward-Lee, Atlanta GA; and Elizabeth Lee Dollar and husband Dr. Mark Dollar, Bristol, TN.; Patricia Ann Lee, Decatur, GA, Mary Kathryn McAmis, Tullahoma, TN, Michael David Lee, New York, NY Seven great grandchildren: Lenora Elizabeth and Lucille Nell Lee, Huntsville, AL, William Michael and Sophia Elizabeth Dollar, Bristol, TN; John McAmis, Michael McAmis and Stephen McAmis, Tullahoma, TN; several nieces, nephews & cousins. The family will receive friends Saturday, July 2nd from 1-2 pm at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be conducted by the Rev. Garland Thayer in the Monte Vista Memorial Park at 2:30 pm Saturday. Friends are requested to meet at the cemetery by 2:20 pm. Family will serve as pallbearers. The family requests those wishing to make memorial donations may send them to First United Methodist Church, 900 Spring St. Johnson City, TN 37604 or to Bethany Presbyterian Church 5825 Fort Henry Drive Kingsport, TN 37663. The family would like to thank the staff of Pine Oaks Assisted Living facility for their loving and kind care of Mary Nell, whom they affectionately called 'Doodlebug'?. She thought of you as family.
