MARYS OBITUARY Mary Pack Richmond, age 86 of Paintsville, Kentucky went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 in Johnson City, TN surrounded by her family and friends. Mary was born October 10, 1927 in Van Lear, Kentucky to James A. Pack, Sr. and Bessie Meddings Pack. She was the seventh of eight children. Mary was a lifelong resident of Johnson County, Kentucky. During the last two years of her life, she fought a courageous battle with Alzheimers disease and loss of hearing. Mary was a member of First Baptist Church of Paintsville and during her lifetime, Mary was a lifetime member of the Republican Womens Club. She assisted in the development of the Van Lear Historical Society and helped to procure items to be displayed in the museum. Also she helped develop the Bank Mule newsletter relaying stories and pictures regarding the Van Lear Historical Society. In addition to being a member of the King Addition Homemakers Club, Paintsville Business and Professional Womens Club, Order of Eastern Star (Past Worthy Matron), she owned own business Marich- Village Ceramics. Mary was a meticulous homemaker and excellent cook. She worked as a telephone operator for Southern Bell Telephone Company. Also, she worked in Lexington, Kentucky at the VA Hospital as a telephone operator. In later years she worked at the Johnson County Court House in many areas. She also devoted many years to researching the Pack-Meddings genealogy. There was nothing she couldnt do if she set her mind to it. Ms. Richmond was not supposed to be able to bear children, but she proved her doctors wrong. Left to mourn her passing is: her only child, Calvin W. James, Jr., daughter-in-law Glenice 'Margie'? James; two grand-daughters Samantha Nicole James and Andrea Michelle James, one brother James A. Pack, Jr. and wife Doris, and one sister Lillian Pack Arrowood, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews and too many friends to mention here. Ms. Richmond is preceded in death by her husband John W. Richmond, her parents, her siblings, and former husband and father of her son, Calvin W. James, Sr. Calvin and Margie James would like to sincerely thank the staff at the Johnson City Medical Center. They provided superb care for Ms. Richmond. They would also like to thank the staff of Morris Baker Funeral Home for all their love and support. They were able to provide much needed prayer and comfort during the last week of her life. Visitation will be at the Morris-Baker Funeral Home, 2001 E. Oakland Avenue, Johnson City, TN from 6:00 '? 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2014. Additional visitation will be in Paintsville, Kentucky at the First Baptist Church from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m on Thursday, January 9, 2014. Funeral services to begin immediately following the visitation. Committal service will follow at the Richmond Cemetery in Paintsville, Kentucky with Pastor ______________ providing prayers and comfort. In lieu of flowers, Mary had requested memorials to the Haven of Rest, 58 Haven Place, Debord, KY 41214. Everyone is invited back to the church for a meal following the graveside services.
