Mrs. Mary Ruth Crum Blalock, 83, Johnson City, joined her heavenly family on Sunday August 22, 2010 in the Appalachian Christian Village. Mary Ruth was a lifelong resident of Johnson City and the daughter of the late Jesse L. and Carrie Harrison Crum. In addition to her parents her husband James W. Blalock also preceded her in death in 1987. She was a 1944 Graduate of Science Hill High School. She received her BS and MA degrees from East Tennessee State University. Mrs. Blalock retired after thirty-five years of service in the educational systems of Elizabethton, Washington County and Johnson City. Mary Ruth was a member of First Presbyterian Church since 1938 where she was active in the Ann King Bible Class and Circle One. She also was librarian for several years. Previously she was a member of the Johnson City Civinette Club and Delta Kappa Gamma. She is survived by a brother, Dewey B. Crum and his wife Gladell; sister-in-law, Virginia B. Woody and her husband Glenn; nephew, Ronnie Woody; niece, Megan W. Keen; special cousins, Mickey Luster, Carolyn L. Rabb, and Sarah Rabb; numerous other cousins. The family would like to thank all her Doctors and the nurses on the 2500 wing at the Johnson City Medical Center. Also, thanks to the nurses and staff at the Appalachian Christian Village skilled nursing facility. A special thank you to Gerald Malcolm for the many trips and prayers for Mary Ruth and family. Mary Ruth called him her 'Saint Gerald'?. The funeral service for Mrs. Mary Ruth Crum Blalock will be conducted at 8 PM Wednesday, August 25, 2010 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Louis Imsande will officiate. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 10 AM Thursday in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be: Sarah Rabb, Mickey Luster, Jimmy Luster, Ronnie Woody, Dallas Crum and Steve Trexler. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 9:30 AM Thursday to go in procession. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday prior to the service.
