Matthew Steven Torbett has now gone to be with our Lord Jesus Christ and his beloved mother, Janis Torbett.
Matt had a zest for life and lived it to the fullest. He graduated from David Crockett High School where he was an avid football player. His skills and abilities earned him a football scholarship to Tusculum University where he was a member of a championship team. After football, he was a member of the Johnson City Rugby Team. If it was a physical sport, Matt enjoyed it.
While Matt had several local jobs, he had settled into his career with Gemini Energy Services doing maintenance and construction of wind turbines. This job had afforded him the opportunity to see the majority of the United States, which he enjoyed.
Matt was a gentle giant who loved his family and friends without question. A kind and generous soul, always ready to help.
His passing will leave a large hole in our lives and the many friends he has developed through his life.
Matt was preceded in death by: his beloved mom, Janis Torbett; his paternal grandparents, Dorothy and Ronald L. Torbett, Sr.; and his maternal grandparents, Geter and Pauline Greene.
Left to mourn this loss are: his father, Ronald L. Torbett, Jr., and his wife, Lesa J. Torbett; his beloved brother, Ronald Brooks Torbett, and his wife, Christy Torbett; niece, Adylin B. Torbett; half-sister, Kristy Torbett; his brother, Jason A. Greenlee, his wife Candice, and their children; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, workmates, teammates, and more friends than can be counted. All who met Matt were won over by his quick wit, winning personality, and his beautiful smile.
Heaven’s gain is our sorrow, but one day we will be together with Christ forever.
