Maxine E. Smiley

October 15, 1933 — November 18, 2014

Maxine E. Smiley, 81, Johnson City, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Lakebridge Health Care Center. Born in Johnson City, she was the daughter of the late Edward Whittaker and Mary Ellen Looney Whittaker Wright. She was raised by her mother and step-father, the late Thurman Wright, after Edward died. Maxine worked at Steinway, Watauga Apparel, and retired from Volunteer Blind Industries in Johnson City. She was a member of Tacoma Church of God and a previous member of the Lions Club. In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert 'Bob'? Smiley; brothers, Cecil and Ronald Whittaker; sister, Lucille Dugger and her husband, Dwight Dugger; and step brother, Jack Wright. She is survived by her son, Jimmy Smiley; two grandchildren, Christy and James Smiley; great granddaughter, Briana Smiley; step-grandson, Matthew Hall; step-sister, Juanita Gill; sisters-in-law, Dolly Whittaker and Liz Whittaker; and several nieces and nephews. A committal service is scheduled for 1:45 pm Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Pastor Rick Ballard will officiate. Pallbearers will be James Smiley, Eddie Dugger, Bo Dugger, Tim Rosenbaum, Bob McCuloch, and Randy Sutphin. Minister, family, and friends are requested to meet at Mountain Home National Cemetery by 1:40 pm Thursday for the service. The family would like to thank the staff of Lakebridge Health Care Center for the wonderful care they provided for Maxine.
