Melba Wright, 87, 2902 Russum Avenue, died Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at Rogersville Care and Rehabilitation Center, Rogersville, TN. Mrs. Wright was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County. She was a daughter of the late George and Eliza Swartz Black and was also preceded in death by her first husband, Thurman Wright, one daughter, Lois Smith, one granddaughter, Rebecca Smith, one sister, Gladys Fleenor and four brothers, Carl Black, George Black, Jr., Homer Black and Paul Black. Mrs. Wright was retired from Leon Ferenbach. She was a member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church and the Order of The Eastern Star. Mrs. Wright is survived by one daughter, Shelia Asbury and her husband, Mike, Reston, VA; grandson, Dusty Asbury, Reston, VA; grandson, Steve Smith, Jonesborough, a great grandson, Gage Smith, Reston, VA; step-daughter, Nancy Blackman, Ohio; two sisters, Mary Anderson, Raleigh, NC and Elsie Robertson, Winston Salem, NC and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Mrs. Wright will be conducted at 8 PM Thursday, January 12, 2006 from the Morris-Baker Funeral Home South Chapel. Reverend Tom Lawson, Reverend Carol Wilson and Reverend David Castle will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 11 AM Friday at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 AM and travel in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 PM until service time Thursday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
