Merle Frank Brown

Received by our Savior, Merle Frank Brown, Jr. on Saturday, November 26, 2011. He was the son of the late Merle F. and Lorena Klinger Brown. He was born in New Albany, IN. He was also preceded by an infant son, Phillip Jeffery Brown and a sister, Judy Thornberry. He was employed with General Mills Inc. for 34 years in the positions as Quality Control Laboratory technician; Operations Control Manager and Grain Elevator Superintendent. His professional Associations and Societies included American Association of Cereal Chemists; American Society of Quality Control and American Society of Safety Engineers. He was a board member for Junior Achievement. He was a lifetime member of the Boy Scouts of America and the Order of the Arrow. He assisted his two sons in reaching the rank of Eagle Scouts. He was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader. He was a Gideon and a member of Heritage Baptist Church. Before moving from Louisville, KY he served as a church Deacon and Sunday school Treasurer. He was a member of the Johnson City Emmaus Community. He was a tax professional with H&R Block in the Mountcastle office. He worked in the Dolywood Amusement Park in Pigeon Forge, TN. He is a past treasurer of Edge of the Smokies R V Association in Cosby, TN. Survived by wife Phyllis J. Howey-Brown; two sons; Michael and his wife Debbie Brown, Larry and his wife Sue Brown; Grand daughters; Lesley K Brown and Danielle Brown all of Johnson City; brother and sister in law: Calvert & Mary Wayne Hydes. Nieces and Nephews, Kimberly Hoard; Michelle Brizendine; Calvert; Charlie Hydes and James Thornberry; Angela Young all of Louisville, KY. Nephew, Chris Thornberry of Ft. Meyers, FL. A graveside service for Mr. Merle Frank Brown, Jr. will be conducted at 1 PM Wednesday, November 30, 2011 in the Louisville Memorial Gardens, East, 11601 Ballardville Road, Louisville, Ky. 40241. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery by 12:50 PM. Friends may call on the family at the residence. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to The Gideons International, P.O. Box 3695, Johnson City, Tn. 37602 or Heritage Baptist Church, 1512 John Exum Pkwy, Johnson City, Tn. 37604.
