Michael Eugene Oliver

Michael E. Oliver, 57, of Gray, died Friday, September 7, 2012 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Johnson City. Michael was a retired member of the U. S. Army in which he had served for 21 years. He worked as a mail carrier for 18 years for the U. S. Postal Service. Michael attended the Skyline Heights Baptist Church and was a member of the Jonesborough Metal Detectors Club. Among his most loved activities, he enjoyed fishing, metal detecting, and being with his grandsons. He was preceeded in death by his father, Eugene M. Oliver of Johnson City. Survivors include: his wife Debbie of the home; his mother Anna Mae Crum Oliver of Johnson City; a son Bryan Oliver of Gray; a daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Rodney McLain of Mt. Carmel; brother Jimmy Oliver of Jonesborough; brother Bob Crum of Johnson City; a sister and brother-in-law Patsy and Tex Gouge of Cookeville; two grandsons Garrett and Easton McLain of Mt. Carmel; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, September 10, 2012 at 8:00pm in the South Chapel of the Morris '? Baker Funeral Home under the direction of Rev. Bud Pate. Steve Pate will provide special music. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until time of service at 8:00pm. A committal service will be conducted on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at 10:00am in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home to leave in procession by 9:40am. Active pallbearers will be: Todd Church, Johnathan Oliver, David Umbarger, Gary Fowler, Louis Champagne, Steve Pate, Randy Turner, Emmett Smith and Kerry McVey. The Boone Dam VFW and the Tennessee National Guard will accord military honors. The family would like to thank the staff of Johnson City Medical Center and Regional Cancer Center. A special thank you to Dr. Keith Cook for his dedication and devotion for making sure that Michael received the best medical care possible, and to Melissa Bailey at JCMC for the personal care she gave to Michael during his final days.
