Michael J. Barber, Sr.

December 4, 1939 — December 17, 2012

Michael J. Barber, age 73, of Jonesborough, passed away peacefully December 17, 2012, surrounded by loving family members. A native of Fall River, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Charles J. Barber and Margaret George Barber. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Barber, and one sister, Shirley Chappell. He was a graduate of Southeastern Massachusetts University at Dartmouth. He retired from the George C. Moore Company after 30 years of service as Director of Quality Control. He was dedicated to his family and St. Marys church and choir. An active square dancer and caller, he enjoyed leading square dances at the Jonesborough Senior Center. He also was an active member of the Hales Community Ruritan and the 'Hardees'? group of Jonesborough, and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-one years, Dorothy 'Dot'? Barber, three children, Michael J. Barber, Jr. of Taunton, MA, Beth Evelyn Barber and partner Stacey Williams of Johnson City, TN, and Alan C. Barber and wife Claire of Durham, NC, one grandson, Ethan Alan Barber also of Durham, several cousins, nieces and nephews, a wide circle of friends, and a constant canine companion, Crissy. A Funeral Mass for Michael J. Barber will be conducted at 1 PM Saturday December 22, 2012, in the St. Marys Catholic Church. Father Peter Iorio and Father Manuel Perez will officiate. The inurnment service will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM Saturday at St. Marys Catholic Church prior to the service.
