Mildred Clara Lillian Blumenschein Skidmore, 101, of Gray, Tennessee, passed away after a short illness on July 18, 2023, at the Johnson City Medical Center.
Mildred was born on December 9, 1921, into the loving home of Emmanuel and Margaret Fox Blumenschein of Marysville, Ohio.
While being a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Marysville, she attended the church school until high school. Mildred became a graduate of Marysville High School in 1939. Following high school, she moved to Columbus, Ohio, where she attended and graduated from Bliss Business College in 1940.
On January 11, 1942, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mildred married the love of her life, Marston Skidmore. They were married until his death in 2001. Together Marston and Mildred raised three wonderful children.
Mildred was employed by Highlights for Children magazine for over twenty-five years.
They moved to Johnson City, Tennessee in 1995 to be near their children that had previously moved to Tennessee. They became faithful members of Boones Creek Christian Church.
During her retirement, Mildred enjoyed quilting, travel, and maintained a lifelong passion of playing various card games including Euchre, Canasta, and Bridge.
Along with her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Luther Blumenschein and Paul Blumenschein; one niece, Melodee Sue Blumenschein; and one great-grandson, Clayton Pack.
Those remaining to cherish her memory include: three children, Gary (Donna) Skidmore, Jerry (Barbara) Skidmore, and Mary Skidmore Henry; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
A visitation service for family and friends will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at 3:00 pm at Boones Creek Christian Church, followed by a memorial service beginning at 4:00 pm. Pastor David Clark will officiate the service. Mildred will be laid to rest at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Worthington, Ohio.
