Miriam Siskin Peace, 83, of Johnson City, TN and formerly of Atlanta, GA, died peacefully on August 17, 2014, surrounded by family, following a long battle with Alzheimers disease. Miriam was the daughter of the late David and Rissa Siskin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Morley Siskin, of Miami, FL. Miriam spent most of her long working career as a highly esteemed cytotechnologist, assisting physicians in the diagnosis of cancer. Despite often working as many as three jobs at a time in order to support and educate her five children, Miriam also earned a law degree and volunteered in several social, civic, and political organizations. She is survived by: her children, Brian N. Smiley (Linda), of Atlanta, GA, Carl V. Smiley, of Atlanta, GA, Janice Hazlehurst, of Chico, CA, Vickie Armstrong (Bob), of Johnson City, and Rissa Soldesi (Ed), of Birmingham, AL; and seven grandchildren, Richard Smiley, of Atlanta, GA, Hilary Smiley, of Atlanta, GA, David Hazlehurst, of California, Ryan Hazlehurst, of California, Christopher Hazlehurst, of New York, Phillip Sholes, of Johnson City, and Michael Sholes, of Johnson City. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 5:30 pm Monday, August 18, 2014 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Dr. Barbara Turner will officiate. The family of Miriam S. Peace will greet visitors following the service.
