Our dear mother, Muriel Alice Savoie Sirois, departed this life to be with her Lord Saturday, January 31, 2015. She was born in 1926 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, daughter of John and Alice Savoie. During her illness she did not utter one complaint and always had a smile and cheery words. Muriel married Arthur Sirois in 1954, and they moved to Winterville, North Carolina where Art had begun a career as a chemical engineer in the textile industry. Throughout their marriage they lived in the Carolinas and Virginia and moved to Johnson City in 1972. Muriel was a homemaker and mother to six devoted children. When her children were grown she worked in a fabric shop, and later spent a ten-year career at JC Penney. A faithful member of St. Marys Catholic Church, Muriel was a lifelong Catholic who loved the Lord with all her heart. She was an avid reader and seamstress, providing beautiful homemade clothing and useful and decorative household items to family and friends. 'Her children rise up and call her blessed!' (Proverbs 31). She is survived by her six children and their spouses: Matthew, Mark and his wife Kay, Denise Kind and her husband Ron, Michelle Edwards and her husband Darrell, Jackie Foster and her husband Les, and Michael and his wife Bethany. In addition are grandchildren: John Edwards and his wife Lucia, Beth Arwood and her husband Josh, Katie Harrison and her husband Joe, Jaclyn Brooks and her husband Ryan, Caroline Bauguess and her husband Travis, Shelby Kind, Kelley Hite and her husband Eric, Daniel Foster, and Julian Sirois; and nine great-grandchildren. One sister, Jackie Williams of Massachusetts, also survives Muriel. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Arthur, sisters Claire James and Anita LaBreque, and brother John Savoie. The family is very grateful to Mountain States Hospice for their attentive care during her last few weeks. Gratitude is also extended to Dr. Mary Jane Gibson, Melissa Leake, NP, and to the clergy and congregation of St. Marys Catholic Church for their prayers and support during Muriels illness. The family of Muriel Alice Savoie Sirois will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 12:15 PM Wednesday at St. Marys Catholic Church. Father Peter Iorio will officiate. The inurnment service will follow in the Mountain Home National Cemetery.
