Newell Crawford

Newell 'Bill'? Crawford, 72, of 163 Carr Cemetery Road, Johnson City died Saturday, June 14, 2008 at his residence. Mr. Crawford was a native of Washington County and a son of the late Thurley and Martha Ann Light Crawford. He was retired from the Tecumseh Products Co in Tecumseh, Michigan. Mr. Crawford was a former member, usher and deacon at Church of Christ in Christian Union. He was a present member of the River of Life Church where Newell and his wife operated the Food Pantry for many years. He is preceded in death by : his parents; one son, Dennis Crawford and one son-in-law, Tim Smith, a grandson, G.M. Lane, a great granddaughter, Layla Thacker, and four siblings. Survivors include: his wife, Barbara Crawford of the home; five daughters, Loretta Smith of Evansville, IN, Kathy Harrell and husband Kenneth of Kernersville, NC, Billie Lane and husband Michael of Tecumseh, MI, Sheila Thacker of Johnson City, and Sharon Shulters and husband Jodie of Cape Coral, FL; five brothers, Herman Crawford of Greeneville, TN, Haskel Crawford of Kingsport, TN, Don Crawford of Tecumseh, MI, Jerry Crawford of Gray, TN and Thurley Crawford, Jr. of Alabama; four sisters, Clara Board of Roanoke, VA, Dovie Nelson of Limestone, TN, Mary Harrell of Kernersville, NC, Janice Cox of Fall Branch, TN; twelve grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive. Special friends for over thirty years Bob and Wilma Threet. The funeral service for Newell 'Bill'? Crawford will be conducted at 8 PM Tuesday, June 17, 2008 in the River of Life Church. Pastor Donnie Humphrey and Rev. Bob Threet will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church from 5:30 to 8 PM Tuesday prior to the service. The committal service will be conducted at 11 AM Wednesday in the Carr Cemetery. Everyone will meet at Morris-Baker at 10:30 AM Wednesday to go to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be his grandsons. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be sent to River of Life Church, 819 Austin Springs Road, Piney Flats, TN 37686
