Norma Geraldine Torbett (Piney Flats) On Tuesday, September 23rd, 2014, surrounded by her loving family, our precious 'GG'? entered into the waiting arms of her Lord and Savior. Norma Geraldine Torbett was born in Bluff City, TN on September 10, 1921. She was the daughter of James Hard Trivett and Margaret Henson Trivett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, Eugene Torbett; two brothers, Earl Trivett and Claude Trivett; and two sisters, Reta Smalling and Margaret King. She is survived by: one son, Larry Eugene Torbett and wife Sondra; one daughter, Margaret Ann Frizzell and husband David; three grandchildren, Mark Torbett and wife Kim, Sarah Akard and husband Travis, and Carole Ringley and husband Josh; four great grandchildren, Matthew Torbett, Denver Muncey, and Mitchell and Brayden Ringley; one special niece, Janette Howze; one brother-in-law, E. A. Torbett, Jr. and wife Peggy; and several additional nieces and nephews. Geraldine was the oldest charter member of the Piney Flats Presbyterian Church where she had served as an Elder, teacher, Choir Director, Organist, and Pianist for over sixty years. She was a graduate of Mary Hughes High School and East Tennessee State University. She was one of the first music teachers in Sullivan County, where she taught at Mary Hughes and Bluff City Elementary Schools until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of the Sullivan County Retired Teachers Association. Geraldine was an avid sports fan and loved the Atlanta Braves and the University of Tennessee football and basketball teams, making sure to wear her 'Tennessee Orange'? on game day. A Service of Celebration and Remembrance will be held at 7 pm Friday, September 26, 2014 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Dr. Robert Rainwater will officiate. The Torbett family will receive friends from 5 pm until 7 pm Friday at Morris-Baker. The committal service is scheduled for 11 am Saturday, September 27, 2014 at Shell Cemetery in Piney Flats. Minister and family are requested to meet at Morris-Baker by 10:15 am Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. Friends are welcome to assemble at the funeral home by 10:15 am to go in procession, or meet at the cemetery by 11 am Saturday. Pallbearers will be Travis Akard, Ken Hart, Donald King, Jr., Gary King, Josh Ringley, Dean Torbett, Mark Torbett, and John Trivett. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Caris Health Care, and especially Jessica and Ben, for their loving and professional care. We were also so fortunate to have a special friend, Ann Frazier, who cared for mom as one of her own family.
