Novella Quillen, 87, died Monday, September 12, 2016 at the Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City. Novella was a daughter of the late James (JD) Lunsford and Hattie Lunsford. Novella was a book lover throughout her life and spread her passion for knowledge and books to many children through her occupation as a Librarian at Boones Creek High School and Watauga Regional Library. She was a loving sister, wife, a proud mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She had a caring heart and enjoyed spending time as the Director of the Regional Bookmobile Service, reading books, watching golf, and playing Scrabble. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her brother, Robert (Bob) Lunsford; sisters, Leona (Toodle) Blaylock, Edna Spoone, Thelma Malcolm, and Beulah Hartsock; husbands, Julian David (JD) Sweet and Dr. Rudolph Quillen DDS; and son, James (Jim) Sweet. Survivors include: her daughter, Judy Gammon; two grandchildren, Michael Gammon and Lynn Gammon; one great grandson, Henry Gammon; one granddaughter-in-law, Jamie Gammon; and several nieces and nephews. The family of Novella Quillen will receive friends from 12 pm to 2 pm Thursday, September 15, 2016 in the Morris-Baker Dogwood Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 2 pm Thursday under the direction of Novella Quillen?s niece, Reverend Dr. Janet S. Richardson. Following the service, family and friends will proceed to Monte Vista Memorial Park for a 3 pm committal service. Pallbearers will be: Lynn Gammon, Michael Gammon, Claud Gilbert, Josh Cain, and Jacob Cain.
