Olen Alexander Talley

Mr. Olen Alexander Talley, age 91, of Johnson City passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2014, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was a native of Morristown and grew up there. He was the son of Thurman A. and Lucy M. Talley. A World War II veteran, Mr. Talley served in the Army Air Corp in Cairo, Egypt. He became a manager for Southern Shoes (Middlesboro, Ky.) and was the first manager of Ford Shoes in the Johnson City Mall from the time it opened until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of Skyline Heights Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Iris M. Talley. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia, and son, Michael, both of Johnson City; a sister, Mary Miller Ayers of Morristown; a sister-in-law Faye Shelnutt of Fletcher, NC; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services for Mr. Talley will be held Monday, December 29, 2014, at 11 a.m. in Hamblen Memory Gardens, 5421 E. Andrew Johnson Hwy, Morristown. The Boone Dam Post # 4933 and the Tennessee National Guard will accord military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2014. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, friends contribute to the Alzheimers Association.
