Osco-Bear Onesimus Jones, 4 months and 20 days, of Johnson City went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 16, 2018 at his residence. He was a son of Eric and Emily Taylor Jones. Osco?s name carries a specific meaning and story. His first name, Osco, is taken from his maternal great-great-grandfather, Osco Beeler. A man of incredible faith in Christ. His middle name is taken from the book of Philemon in the Bible. Onesimus was a slave who was led to Christ by the Apostle Paul while both were imprisoned. Onesimus, having run away from Philemon and being imprisoned with Paul, found himself in an impossible situation. Once submitting to Christ, Onesimus was faced with and with an unimaginable debt owed to Philemon. Paul wrote this letter to Onesimus?s former master we now know as the book of Philemon. Paul took on the debt of Onesimus so he could return in peace. Onesimus of the scripture represents us; a slave of the fall with an incredible debt to pay. Yet, his debt was paid so he could return to Life based on no merit of his own. Osco-Bear is named to remind us all who we are before and after Christ; that Christ paid our debt so that we could return to Father debt free. An uncle, Graham Davis preceded him in death. Survivors in addition to his parents include: three sisters, Cora, Lottie and Bessie-Kate Jones; maternal grandparents, Roger and Jackie Davis and Steve and Lucy Taylor; paternal grandparents, Charles and Pamela Jones; maternal great grandmother, Effie Taylor. A celebration of life service is scheduled for Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at 6:00 pm at Heritage Baptist Church under the direction of Rev. Reggie Weems. There is no visitation planned.
