Paul Woodby Paul L. Woodby, 85, of Johnson City, passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at his residence. He was a lifelong Washington County resident and a son of the late David S. and Bertha Hopson Woodby. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Woodby Kirk and Peggy Woodby Davis both of Johnson City and Barbara Woodby Day of Birmingham, AL and one granddaughter, Jackie Michelle Fields. Mr. Woodby retired from Flav-O-Rich as a driver and supervisor. He was a member of the Johnson City Church of God and had attended South Johnson City Church of God for a number of years. He had been involved in working for the Church of God for 63 years. He was a lifetime member of the Johnson City Elks Lodge and had served as chaplain and treasurer, a member of the Johnson City Moose Club and a lifetime member of the Johnson City VFW Post #2108. He was also a member and held many offices in the Democratic Party and had served as President of the King Springs PTA. He had also been a member of the Johnson City Emergency Rescue Squad for many years. Mr. Woodby was honored in June 1958 by the Prestonburg Schoolchildren Recovery Committee relating to a bus accident near Prestonburg, Ky., that February. The driver and 26 schoolchildren died when the bus crashed into the Big Sandy River. Mr. Woodby was part of a Rescue Squad unit that helped rescue 16 students from the water. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Dorothy 'Dottie' Woodby of the home; sister, Jean Holtzclaw of Johnson City; former wife and mother to his children, Pauline Stroupe Woodby of Johnson City; three children, daughter, Patricia 'Pat' Woodby Glover and husband Raymond 'Buddy' of Johnson City; son, Paul F. Woodby and wife Linda of Gray; daughter, Pamela 'Pam' Woodby Walker and husband Jay of Gray. Grandchildren, Lisa Monforte (Mike), Brian Glover (Kinli), Amy Miller (Mark), Joshua Woodby (Charloe), Jeremiah Woodby (Jennifer), Laura Schnelle (Craig), Lindsey Ferguson and Jordan Walker. Great grandchildren, Hayley Moss, Mason Moss, Kali Glover, Kami Glover, Allie Draper, Peyton Woodby, Saylor Schnelle and Tatum Schnelle. Great, great grandchild, Jonah Moss. Five stepchildren, Paul Douglas Jones and wife Sandra of Johnson City; Mary Jones Fields Flickinger and husband Alan of Maryland; Brenda McGhee and husband Jerry of Gray; Timothy R. Jones and wife Jeri of Johnson City; David A. Jones and wife Ruby of Johnson City; Step grandchildren, Brian Busier (Erin), Dustin Jones, Tammy Harless (Shawn), Kristy Reaves (Keith), Angela Jackson (Anthony) and Justin Jones. Step great grandchildren, Logan Jones, Olivia Jones, Jonathan Reaves, Matthew Reaves, Daniel Reaves, Gabriel Reaves, Kara Reaves and Ariaya Jackson; several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Dr. James Hansen, Diane, Sandra and Peggy at Johnson City Internal Medicine. A special thank you to Mountain States Hospice for the kindness and love you have shown to Mr. Woodby throughout his last months here on earth. A special thanks to Pam Burdette with Hospice. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at 7:00 pm from the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Bryant Collins, Pastor Aaron Morgan and Pastor Larry Campbell will officiate. Burial services will be conducted at the Roselawn Memory Gardens at 11:00 am on Wednesday. A procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 on Wednesday for the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mason Moss, Steve Franklin, Bob Graybeal, John Rodgers, Rodger Espoiza and Neil Friedman. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Stanley, Jerry McGhee, George Richie, Harry Livingston, and Dwight Hubbard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 until 7:00 pm on Tuesday.
