Mildred “Pauline” Stierwalt, age 83, died Monday, December 23, 2019, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center in Mountain Home, Tennessee.
Pauline was born on January 3, 1936 to Frank Satterfield and Rose Lee Lemons Satterfield in Rutledge, Tennessee. She enlisted in the Army in 1960 and served until she married her husband, Joe Stierwalt, in 1961. Her career varied throughout the years and included modeling when they lived in Greece, selling real estate in Illinois, and banking in Illinois and Tennessee. Finishing her education was an important goal to Pauline so she enrolled at ETSU and she graduated in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree, alongside her daughter, Jo-Lynn Martin.
Pauline was always an active member of her community. She was involved in the Junior Women’s Club in Illinois, and in Tennessee she helped organize many events including the fashion shows at the Erwin Senior Center. She attended services at the Unicoi Christian Church.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on March 22, 1998, Joe Stierwalt; a sister, Ruby; and a brother, LC.
She is survived by her children, Jo-Lynn (and John) Martin, Joseph (and Suzanne) Stierwalt, and Jason (and Kathy) Stierwalt; grandchildren, Katie Martin, Johnathon Martin, Kenner Martin, Lainey Stierwalt, Jillian Siterwalt, and Jordan Stierwalt; great-grandchildren, Luna and Zarabelle; and a sister, Margaret.
A committal service be held at 1:00 p.m. at Mountain Home National Cemetery on Monday, December 30, 2019, under the direction of Pastor Dave Tysinger. Military honors will be accorded by the Boone Dam VFW Honors Detail. Please meet at the cemetery gates by 12:50 p.m. to go in procession.
