Peggy Penuel Torbett

Peggy P. Torbett, 86, Johnson City, went to be with the Lord Thursday, March 22, 2018, at The Waters of Johnson City after a long illness. Peggy was born on May 28, 1931 in Piney Flats, TN, where she lived her whole life. She was preceded in death by: her parents, James Monroe Penuel and Betty Milhorn Penuel; one infant son, Keith Lawrence Torbett; and one sister, Mary Elizabeth Penuel. She is survived by: her husband of 69 years, Eli A. ?Tab' Torbett, Jr.; one daughter, Keyvn Elizabeth Torbett; and one grandson, John F. Landers, II. Peggy worked as a sales clerk at Kress Department Store, was an executive assistant for architect, Leland Cardwell, and was a secretary at First People?s Bank. She was honored as a top manager and sales person on the east coast for Tupperware. She then worked and retired from General Shale after 31 years as an executive assistant. She was active in the National Secretaries Association for several years, also serving as President of the Tri-Cities chapter. She received the honor of Secretary of the Year. She was a member of the New Bethel Presbyterian Church for over 50 years and was the choir director for many years. She served as President of Presbyterian Women, was treasurer of Holston Presbytery and taught Sunday school. Special thank you to The Waters and Brookdale for their loving care. The family of Peggy Torbett will receive friends from 9:30 AM until 11:30 AM Saturday, March 31, 2018, at New Bethel Presbyterian Church. The funeral will follow at 11:30 AM with Rev. Eric Spoon officiating. Pallbearers include: Dean Torbett, Wayne Torbett, Dickie Torbett, Jonathan White, Jim Wright, Donald King and Dwight King. Special music will be provided by Debbie Thomas and Teresa Wright. A committal service will be held at New Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery immediately following the funeral service. Peggy would love to have flowers sent for her service, for she loved them dearly.
