Philip Stewart Young

(I Corinthians 2:9) Philip Stewart Young passed into the presence of Christ on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at home, surrounded by his wife and sons. He was born in Tupelo, MS on February 24, 1950 to the late Stewart and Thelma Bass Young. He was a 1972 graduate of the University of Mississippi where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. He received a Master of Science degree from East Tennessee State University. Philip was employed with Mountain States Hospital Foundation as Director of Major Gifts and Planned Giving. He was previously employed with the State of Mississippi Health Department in Tupelo, MS, Citizens and Southern Bank of Macon, GA, Bank of America in Atlanta, GA, Mass Mutual Life Insurance company in Kingsport, TN, and as a Trust Officer and Vice President with First Tennessee Bank in Johnson City, TN. Philip loved his church and community and served on the Milligan College Presidents Executive Council, Johnson City Chamber of Commerce Leadership 2015 Class, the Tennessee Estate Planning Council, was a Director and Chairman of the Board of The Crumley House Brain Rehabilitation Center, was a member of the United Emmaus Community and the Kairos Prison Ministry, and Gideons International. He was a dedicated, long-time member of Central Baptist Church where he had served as a Royal Ambassador leader, Youth and College Sunday School teacher, Deacon and Chairman of the Deacon Board, Board of Directors, Nominating Committee, Benevolence Committee, Greeters Ministry, Transportation Coordinator for Family Promise/Interfaith Hospitality Network, and teacher for the William Rigell Sunday School Class. Those left to cherish his memory include: his wife of 37 years, Karen Wilson Young; two sons, Evan Philip Young, of Port Orange, FL, and Marshall Stewart Young, and his wife Danielle, of Piney Flats, TN; two grandchildren, Hunter and Kayleigh Garrett; one sister, Phyllis Young McMillan; one nephew, Chuck McMillan of Plantersville, MS; and beloved father and mother-in-law, Ambers and Marshall Wilson. The family of Philip Young will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, November 27, 2015 at Central Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM with Dr. Ron Murray, Dr. Tommy Hood and Rev. Tim Tapp officiating. Pallbearers will be: Terry Muse, Darrell Corpening, Mike Davenport, David Davis, Richard Fields, Robin Hodges, Jim McCroskey, and Jeff Young. Honorary Pallbearers include: the faithful men of the William Rigell Sunday School Class, Claudette Sanders, Debbie Shipley, Pat Holtsclaw and the Mountain States Foundation Office, and Maureen MacIver and the Cary Street Partners Office. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home by 9:30 AM Saturday, November 28, 2015 to go in procession to Monte Vista Memorial Park for 10:00 AM graveside services. For those who prefer, memorials may be made to the Niswonger Children?s Hospital, 400 N State of Franklin Rd, Johnson City, TN 37604; The Crumley House Brain Injury Rehabilitation Center, 300 Urbana Rd, Limestone, TN 37681; or Gideons International, 609 E Elk Ave, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
