Phyllis Jane Reed

Phyllis Jane Shell Reed, 91, of Jonesborough, Tennessee, went to her final home in Heaven on Saturday, December 9, 2023, from the Johnson City Medical Center.

Phyllis was the daughter of Warner and Mary Katherine Heaton Shell. She was born and lived in Carter County until 1967. The family would move to Gray and later, she and her husband Lester, would move to Jonesborough.

She was a member of Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church for 56 years. She was a dedicated Christian and prayer warrior, who loved her Lord and Savior. Phyllis was a wonderful and much loved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by: her husband of 64 years, Lester G. Reed; two granddaughters, Carol Mitchell Robinson and Libby Faith Hazelwood Taylor; three brothers; and three sisters.

Survivors include: her children, Alan (Patricia) Reed of Kingsport, Tennessee; Janie Sexton of the home; Susan (Dennis) Honeycutt of Hendersonville, Tennessee; Mary Ellen Reed (special friend Sandy Kenin) of Carrollton, Georgia; David W. Reed (Anne Laurie) of Columbia, South Carolina; ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home in the Dogwood Chapel. The funeral service will begin following the public visitation at 7:00 PM. Pastor John Herdman will be officiating the service. A committal service is scheduled for Friday, December 15, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 11:50 AM.
