Phyllis M. Davlin, 88, peacefully passed away at Four Oaks Healthcare in Jonesborough, Tennessee on May 12, 2020.
Phyllis was the youngest child and only daughter of Luther J. & Junie Bowers Black, born September 16, 1931 in Tuscola, IL. She was predeceased by her parents, 3 brothers and sisters-in-law Walter (Irma), Ernest "Phil" (Dorothy) and Robert (Mary Margaret).
Phyllis met Jim Davlin when their parents shared a telephone party line in Springfield, IL. They both attended University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana and were married on November 10, 1951. Phyllis taught 1st grade in Chicago and became a longtime resident of Park Ridge, IL.
Phyllis was a devoted mother to her four children, Katy, Jim, Patti and Karen and loving mother-in-law to Dennis Rosolowski, Jane Davlin and Jim Seida. Phyllis was preceded in death by her daughter Patti in 1976 and her husband Jim in 2012 after 61 years of marriage. She was beloved Nana "Nanie" to her seven grandchildren: Anna Davlin and Tim (Carolyn), Matt, John, Annie, Mary and Caroline Seida.
Phyllis was an avid knitter and created over 600 items to warm mariner’s hearts and heads through the Christmas at Sea program. To her, knitting was a tool she used most of her life to love and serve others. She also volunteered at the school library, Our Lady of Hope Church and Travelers Aid at O'Hare International Airport. Phyllis loved to help children, whether it was reading, growing in their faith, or finding their airline connections.
Graveside services by Father Clemens and Mary Witt will take place at a later date at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, IL.
