Phyllis Shepherd

Mrs. Phyllis Shepherd, age 91, of Milligan College, passed away Monday, January 27, 2014, in the Ivy Hall Nursing Home, Elizabethton. Ms. Shepherd was born in Spokane, WA. She was the daughter of the late Alfred William and Selma Heikkila Volkman. In addition to her parents, her husband, Roscoe Shepherd, Jr.; two brothers, Robert and Walter Volkman also preceded her in death. Phyllis was a member of the Watauga Valley Art League for twenty years, and also served as president. Survivors include: two daughters, Mary Patterson and her husband Mark, and Norma Young and her husband Tony; two sons, James B. Shepherd and special friend Deby Davis, and Craig A. Shepherd and his wife Monica; two brothers, Edgar and Leonard Volkman; eleven grandchildren, James Shepherd, Sheree Inge, Greg A. Shepherd, Karen Elizabeth Payne, Amy Clark, Angela Shepherd, Shawn Shepherd, Lindsey Tipton, Cortney Patterson, Michael Sanders, and Jonathan Taylor Young; four great grandchildren, Caleb Payne, Kendra Payne, Jaxon Inge, and Casey Elise Sanders; special daughter, Nancy Hyder; and very special friend Chris Bryant. The family of Mrs. Phyllis Shepherd will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday, January 31, 2014, in the Morris-Baker North Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 8 PM in the Morris-Baker North Chapel. Pastor Thomas Kock will officiate. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 10 AM Saturday in the Washington County Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Jed Clark, Tony Young, Jonathan Young, Michael Sanders, Tim Tipton and Eric McKeehan. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Shepherd and Craig A. Shepherd. Minister, family, and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 9:15 AM Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family would also like to thank Judy Deloach and the wonderful, kind and loving staff at Ivy Hall Nursing home for all the loving care that she received while in their care over the last four years. Tera you are an angel. Doris and Lois you were very special friends and very loved.
