Phyllis Smalling Holloway

Phyllis Smalling Holloway, 77, of Chuckey, passed away on Monday, August 15, 2011 in the Durham-Hensley Nursing Home in Chuckey.She was a native of Piney Flats and a daughter of the late Alexander Rankin and Mary Mingea Smalling. She was also preceded in death by one brother, John D. Smalling and one sister, Jane S. Crussell. Mrs. Holloway was of the Presbyterian faith. She had taught in the Sullivan County School System for 25 years. Mrs. Holloway received her Bachelors and Masters degrees from East Tennessee State University Survivors include; her former husband, Fred C. Holloway of Johnson City; one son, Douglas Fred Holloway and his wife, Paula of Johnson City; one daughter, Carol Holloway Gentry and her husband Scott of Johnson City; one sister, Anne Frazier of Piney Flats; one sister in law, Elsie Smalling of Maryville; three grandchildren Elizabeth Bryant Gentry and John Brayden Gentry both of Johnson City and Meredith Anne Gentry; 2 step Grandchildren, Bradley Gothard of Kingsport and Caitlin Gothard of Johnson City; several nieces and nephews.Graveside services will be conducted at 10:00 am Wednesday, August 17, 2011 in New Bethel Cemetery in Piney Flats. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to, New Bethel Presbyterian Church, Cemetery Fund, 592 New Bethel Road, Piney Flats, TN 37686.
