Mr. Pleasent Webster 'Pete' Martin, Jr., 80, of Johnson City, passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2015, in the NHC Health Center. Pete was born in Macon, Georgia January 8, 1935. He was the son of the late P. W. and Roma Beggs Martin. Pete grew up in Macon, graduating from Lanier High School and Mercer University. He taught high school English in Macon before going to graduate school at Rutgers where he earned a Master of Library Science degree. He worked in public libraries on Long Island, NY and retired from the Levittown Public Library after forty years, 36 as Director. Pete has resided in Johnson City since December 2014. Pete was a member of the East Coast Collectors, an organization for collectors of Charles Schultz 'Peanuts' memorabilia. In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by one brother, George Beggs Martin. Survivors include one sister, Roma Martin Carimi and her sons, David Harris Anderson of West Palm Beach. FL and Douglas Martin Anderson of Elizabethton. TN, and partner Howard Gordon of Johnson City, TN. The family of Mr. Pleasent 'Pete' Martin will receive friends from 1 to 2 pm Friday, November 6, 2015, in the Morris-Baker Chapel. A memorial service will follow at 2 pm with Minister Jeff Douds, of West Main Street Christian Church officiating. Burial will be at a later date. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Levittown Public Library, 1 Bluegrass Lane, Levittown, NY 11756.
