Ralph Cook, 78, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 19, 2008 from the Lakebridge Health Care Center. Mr. Cook was a native of Grundy, VA. and had lived in Johnson City for fifty years. He was a son of the late Ira and Bessie Boyd Cook. He was a retired optician with American Optical. Mr. Cook was a member of the Snow Memorial Baptist Church. He was also and member of the Shelby Lodge # 162,F and AM of Bristol, VA. Mr. Cook was preceded in death by: his parents; one son Larry Cook ;six sisters, Myrtle Street, Maize Diamond, Dorothy Shortt, Trula McGlothin, Leah Meadows and Annalene Guffey; two brothers, Earl Cook and Carl Cook. Survivors include: his wife of sixty years, Verna Warren Cook of the home; two children, Judy Irvin and husband Bill of Hopewell, VA and Linda Allen of Johnson City; two grandsons, Christopher Irvin and Matthew Irvin of Hopewell, VA; one sister, Rose Odum of Restin, VA; several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Ralph Cook will be conducted at 8 PM Wednesday, May 21, 2008 in the Morris-Baker North Chapel. Rev. John Perkins will officiate. Music will be by Mr. Roddy Bird. The committal service will be conducted at 11 AM Thursday, in the Roselawn Memorial Park. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 10:50 AM Thursday. The family will receive friends at Morris-Baker from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday prior to the service.
