Ray O. Tipton

Mr. Ray O. Tipton, age 72, of Gray, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013, in the Holston Valley Medical Center. Mr. Tipton was a native of Unicoi County. He was the son of the late Calvin Tipton and Frankie Linville Tipton . In addition to his parents four sisters, Pauline Tipton, Myrtyle McGee, Verna Laws and Thelma Britt; five brothers, Arnold Tipton, Calvin Tipton, Gene Tipton, Tom Tipton and Paul Tipton also preceded him in death. Mr. Tipton attended Science Hill High School. He retired as a superintendent from Rinker Materials. He was a member of the Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include his loving wife of thirty-six years, Jean Tipton; two daughters, Betty Hughes and her husband Wayne and Vicky Tipton; four sons, Wayne Tipton and his wife Lora, David Carr and his wife Sissy, Junior Carr and his wife Whitney and Allen Cole and his girlfriend Tracey; one brother, Glenn Tipton and his wife Wanda; eleven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; his special dog, CoCo. The funeral service for Mr. Ray O. Tipton will be conducted at 8 PM Friday, August 2, 2013, in the Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church. Rev. Paul Crowe will officiate. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday in the Washington County Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Allen Cole, Junior Carr, David Carr, Wayne Hughes, Douglas Wright, Calvin W. Wright, Wayne Tipton and Josh Simpson. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 AM Saturday to go in procession. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday prior to the service at Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church.
