Raymond Ethmond Tipton, 88, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2023, at his home.
Raymond was born on April 13, 1935, in Erwin, Tennessee. He earned his diploma from Martin Chapel. He joined the Army in 1953 and served as an engineer until his honorable discharge in 1974. He and his family lived in many locations during his service, including Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri (several times), Germany, and France. During his service he was awarded many medals including but not limited to: Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam, National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and USAREUR Service Medal.
After his retirement, Raymond earned a degree from Steed College. He excelled at remodeling, brick masonry, and woodworking.
Raymond was preceded in death by his mother, Josie Tipton; wife of 54 years in 2014, Barbara Tipton; and granddaughter, Chandler Murray.
He is survived by his daughter, Carrie Murray; son, Keith Tipton; and grandchildren, Hunter Murray, Jonathan Murray, Heather Greer, and Sam Tipton.
There will be a committal service with military honors rendered at 11:00 am, Friday, December 15, 2023, at Evergreen Cemetery in Erwin. Please gather at the cemetery by 10:50 am.
