Richard C. Potter, 51, of Jonesborough, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 in Marion, North Carolina. Mr. Potter was a native of Johnson City. He was the son of the late Thomas Paine Potter, Jr. MD and Shirley May 'Bill'? Smith Potter. In addition to his parents his maternal grandparents, Roy and Nona Smith; paternal grandparents, Rev. Thomas Paine Potter, Sr. and Gertrude Campbell Potter also preceded him in death. Mr. Potter was a Truck Driver for KLLM Trucking of Jackson, MS. Prior to becoming a truck driver, Mr. Potter worked at Plus Mark, in Greeneville, TN and Texas Instruments in Johnson City, TN as an electronics technician. Mr. Potter was a 1976 graduate of Science Hill High School and had an Associates Degree from Northeast Tennessee State. He was a lifelong member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church. Mr. Potter was a member of the Johnson City Jaycees and a Ham radio enthusiast. Mr. Potter is survived by his son Christopher Neal Potter, of Johnson City, TN who will always be the light of his dads life. Richard is also survived by his brother Thomas Paine Potter, III of Pocatello, ID; his sister Patricia May Potter of Piney Flats, TN; his stepmother Tonita B. Potter of Johnson City, TN; his Uncle and Aunt Rev. Farrell and Joann Blankenship of Clinton MS. Richard is survived by special cousins Gene and Cheryl Wilson of Indianapolis IN; Susan and William Ogsbury of Logansport, IN; Kent and Kevin Blankenship of Hattiesburg MS; Kirk and Maria Blankenship of Brandon MS; and Kellie and Keith Tadlock of Jackson MS; and special friend Debbie Wilson. The Celebration of Life for Mr. Richard C. Potter will be conducted at 7:30 PM Thursday, January 14, 2009 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. The Rev. Farrell Blankenship and The Rev. Hal T. Hutchison from St Johns Episcopal Church in Johnson City will officiate. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 11 AM Friday in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Clayton Caudill, Gordon Bolton, Matthew Bolton, Scott Jordan, Scott Moore, Wayne Rader, Jr. and Addison Schneiter. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of KLLM Trucking and Jim Privette. Ministers, family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 AM Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:30 PM Thursday prior to the service. The family request that memorial contributions be made to the Washington County Johnson City Animal Shelter, 525 Sells avenue, Johnson City, Tn. 37604 or Haven of Mercy Homeless Shelter, 123 West Millard Street, Johnson City, Tn. 37601 or the charity of your choice.
