Richard Charles Calcatera

November 14, 1922 — January 12, 2013

Richard Charles Calcatera, 90, of 763 Old Elizabethton Highway, Bluff City, died Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 2 p.m. at his residence. He was a native of Grosse Pointe, Michigan, a former resident of Florida and lived with his son Kevin in Bluff City for the past eight years. Richard was a son of the late Charles A. and Mary Agnes Bartley Calcatera. Richard was a retired biologist for the Parke-Davis Company for 37 years. He was a member of the St. Marys Catholic Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Linda Rose Calcatera in 2003; a son, Gary R. Calcatera; a brother, Charles Calcatera; two sisters, Dorothy Cser and Edna Miller. Richard was a veteran of WWII having served in the U. S. Army, 26th infantry division Northern France, Ardenia, Rhineland, Central Europe and was awarded three bronze stars. He attended Wayne State University and received a degree of Bachelor of Science. Richard was a retired biologist for the Parke-Davis Company for 37 years. Survivors include: a daughter, Susan Marjorie Powell of Bluff City; three sons, Mark Charles Calcatera of Centerville, Ohio, Jeffrey Robert Calcatera of Virginia and Kevin Alexander Calcatera of Bluff City; three grandchildren Natalie Calcatera of Dallas, TX, Nicholas Powell of Bluff City and Lauren Powell of Asheville, NC; several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial service is scheduled for Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 2:00 pm in the St. Marys Catholic Church under the direction of Father Manuel Perez. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, January 15, 2012 at the Morris '? Baker Funeral Home. A committal service will be conducted in the Monte Vista Memorial Park on Wednesday, following the Mass. Memorials may be made in the form of contributions to: the American Cancer Society, 508 Princeton Road, Johnson City, TN 37601.
