Richard Howard 'Rick'? Carter, 45, of 110 Suncrest Street, Gray died Wednesday, May 12, 2010 in Fall Branch. Mr. Carter ,known to his family and friends as 'Rick'?, was a native and lifelong resident on Washington County. He was a son of Stella Mae Hilton Osborne of Gray and the late James Edward Carter. Mr. Carter was employed as a truck driver with the City of Johnson City with 15 years of service. Rick loved Country Music and played the guitar, banjo, mandolin and harmonica. He also enjoyed karaoke and dancing the flatfoot with his mother. Rick was the type of person that never met a stranger and loved to challenge others to arm-wrestle with him. He is preceded in death by: his father; and one step-sister, Ruby Shipley; and his Step-Father, Charles Osborne. Survivors include: his mother, Stella Mae Osborne of Gray; one son, Richard Dalton Carter of Boone, NC; two brothers, Tim Carter of Kingsport and Franklin Osborne in the U.S. Marine Corps in Cherry Point, NC; three sisters, Alice Jane Townsend of Chuckey, TN, Kathy Mae Littrell of Fall Branch, TN and Brenda Lee Shipley of Gray, TN; three Step-Brothers and one Step-Sister; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family of Richard Howard 'Rick'? Carter will receive friends from 1 to 3 PM Sunday, May 16, 2010 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 3 PM in the South Chapel with Rev. Don Hilton, officiating. Active pallbearers will be family and friends. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
