Richard L. Garland 'the Carburator Man'? ,a lifelong resident of Johnson City, was born on June 29,1926 and died on January 22, 2008 in Johnson City. Survivors include: his wife of sixty-two plus years, Helen Price Garland of the Home; three sons, Johnny Dean and wife Laurie of Johnson City, Roger Dale and wife Teresa of Jonesborough, Terry Ray and wife Sonja of Naples, Florida; nine grandchildren, Davy Garland, Jeremy Garland, Benjamin Garland, Heather Duty, Amber Garland, Alden Beane , Molly Behrends, Jonathan Harrigan and Brian Harrigan; two sisters, Evelyn Stinson and Sandra Higgins; five brothers, Kenneth Garland, Robert Garland, Stanley Garland, Jimmy Garland, and Earl Garland; several nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Garland in preceded in death by: his parents, Walter A. and Nerva Barnett Garland; a grandson, Mickey Todd Garland; a brother, Ernie Garland; a sister, Helen Price. In addition to his family, Richards love was for his church, Berea FWB Church, and its members. There he served as a Deacon for over forty years and a faithful servant member with the Second Harvest Food Bank program. Richard worked at Tennessee Motor Co. for thirty-three years, at Cherokee 76 Garage for fifteen years and at his personal garage as tune-up and carburetor repairman until his death. The funeral service for Richard L. Garland will be conducted at 8 PM Saturday, January 26, 2008 at Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Jerry Stout will officiate. The graveside service will be conducted at 2 PM Sunday in the Roselawn Memorial Park. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 1:55 PM Sunday. Active pallbearers will be Davy Garland, Jeremy Garland, Benjamin Garland, Robert France (Richards best friend out-of-the-family), Marion France, Jonathan Harrigan, Steven Duty, and Donald Barnett. Honorary pallbearers will be the Brethren of the Berea FWB Church, his many customer friends over the years, Lynn Barnett, Claude Bandinot, Bill Adams, Verlon Henson, and Roy Barnett. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 6 to 8 PM Saturday prior to the service.
