Rick Arwood, 57, of Johnson City, died Sunday, April 21, 2013 at the Appalachian Christian Village following a six-year battle with cancer. He was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City. He was a son of the late Bobbie Shipley and James Howard Arwood. Mr. Arwood formerly attended the Harrison Church of Christ. He was with the City of Johnson City for over 28 years. His final position was as manager of the Knob Creek Wastewater Treatment facility. He loved his job, and was nationally recognized in 1992 for excellent performance in environmental health. Mr. Arwood was an outdoorsman who loved hiking, hunting, and fishing. He was an avid lover of music and played the drums for many years. Survivors include: two sons, Richard Arwood and Ben Arwood, both of the home; sister, Tammy Arwood, Johnson City; brother, Brent Arwood, Johnson City; and Uncle and Aunt, Jim and Barbara Potter, Nashville. Funeral services for Rick Arwood will be conducted 2:00 PM Thursday, April 25, 2013 in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Rev. Donnie Humphrey will officiate. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home by 1:40 PM Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery for those services.
