Dr. Robert B. ?Bob' Hall, 88, Johnson City, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2017. Dr. Hall was born on April 22, 1929, in Louisville, KY to the late Robert William and Virginia Katherine Hill Hall. Education: B.A., Cincinnati Bible Seminary; B.S., M.A., Butler University; M.A., East Tennessee State University; Ph.D., The University of Tennessee. Dr. Hall also attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Vanderbilt University, University of Chattanooga, and Harvard University. Preaching ministry: Paynesville Christian Church, Paynesville, IN, 1948-1959; Sonora Christian Church, Sonora, KY, 1948-1949; Birdseye Christian Church, Birdseye, IN, 1949-1950; White Mills Christian Church, White Mills, KY, 1950-1954; Ogilville Church of Christ, Columbus, IN, 1954-1955; Cookeville Christian Church, Cookeville, TN, 1955-1956; Ashland Terrace Christian Church, Chattanooga, TN, 1956-1961; Orchard Street Church of Christ, West Allis, WI, 1961-1963; Ashland Terrace Christian Church, Chattanooga, TN, 1963-1967. Teaching ministry: College of the Scriptures, Louisville, KY, 1951-1952; University of Chattanooga, 1965-1967; Milligan College, 1967-1994, Professor of Sociology, finishing as Chairman of the Area of Social Learning; Springdale College, Birmingham, England, 1987, 1995-1996. With his wife, Velma, Dr. Hall was a faithful member of Grandview Christian Church for 50 years. He led the Church and Community Sunday School class at Grandview for 48 years, where he also served as elder, leader, and faithful member of the choir. Dr. Hall served as a chaplain in the National Guard and the US Army Reserve from 1958 until 1989 when he retired with the rank of colonel. For many years, Dr. Hall served on the Foster Care Review Board of Washington County and also delivered meals for Meals on Wheels. He received the Fide et Amore Award from Milligan College in 2001. In addition to his parents, Dr. Hall was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Velma Jean Jones Hall, and his brother, David Gordon Hall. Survivors include: one daughter, Mary Katherine Hall; two sons, Robert Jackson Hall and his wife Lisa, and John Burnett Hall; three grandchildren, Robert Colby Hall, Kylie Elizabeth Hall and Anna Katherine Hall; and one brother, William Forester Hall. The family of Robert Hall will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, December 8, 2017, at Grandview Christian Church. A memorial service will follow at 7:00 PM with Dr. Aaron Wymer officiating.
