Mr. Robert Jay Collins, age 90, of Jonesborough, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2014, in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. Mr. Collins was a lifelong resident of Jonesborough. He was the son of the late Robert Jefferson and Jessie Ann Payne Collins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second wife, Sue Tucker Collins; six sisters, Bertha Johnson, Frances Garst, Lilly Belle Simms, Inez Archer, Mae Belle Collins, and an infant sister; brothers, Dewey Collins and an infant brother. Mr. Collins served in the US Army. He was a roofer with Neal Story & Sons for thirty-seven years. Survivors include: his wife, Judy Turner Collins; one daughter, Roberta Collins; three sons, Nathanial Ellis Collins, Jack Edwards Collins and Roger Jones; step-daughter, Julie Turner; step-son, Carl Fink; two grandchildren, Robert David Collins and Cody Dale Collins; three step-grandchildren, Albert Fink, Cassandra Highben, and Zach Johnson; brother, Paul Collins; and half-sister, Maggie Miller; half-brothers, Ben Collins, Ronald Collins, Matthew Collins, Junior Collins and J.D. Collins. The family would like to express a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center for the wonderful care that was given to Robert. A private graveside committal service for Mr. Robert Jay Collins will be conducted Thursday, January 9, 2014 in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. The VFW Post # 4933 and the Tennessee National Guard will accord military honors.
