Roberta Ruth Slagle

September 22, 1927 — January 21, 2010

Mrs. Roberta Slagle, 82, 707 Forrest Avenue, Johnson City, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2010 in Northside Hospital. Mrs. Slagle was a native of Mayfield, Kentucky but had lived most of her life in Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late Robert Odell Jenkins and Pauline Conner Jenkins. In addition to her parents, her husband, Clay H. Slagle, Jr and brother, William Jenkins preceded her in death. Mrs. Slagle was the head Librarian for a number of years in the Sullivan County Library System. She was an active member of St. Marys Catholic Church. Survivors include: two sons, Mark Slagle and his wife Linda of Johnson City and Dan Slagle and his wife Judy of Johnson City; one sister, Jemima Milhorn and her husband Glenn of Kingsport; one brother, David Jenkins and his wife Nancy of Atlanta; one sister-in-law, Dot Jenkins of Kingsport; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Spurrier and her husband John of Hendersonville, Tn., Patrick (Spider) Slagle and his wife Stephanie of Charleston, South Carolina, Corey Slagle and his wife Malinda of Dallas and Anna OBrien and her husband Chad of Bloomington, Illinois; five great grandchildren, Sydney Spurrier, Graham Spurrier, Logan Spurrier all of Hendersonville, Tn. and Mae Anne Slagle of Dallas and Maggie Anne OBrien of Bloomington, Illinois. A Mass of Christian Burial service will be conducted at 12 noon Monday, January 25, 2010 in the St. Marys Catholic Church. Father Michael Cummins will officiate. The graveside committal service will follow in the Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be: Spider Slagle, Corey Slagle, Chad OBrien, John Spurrier, Steve Milhorn and David Jenkins. The family will receive friends at Morris-Baker from 2 to 4 PM Sunday. Memories and condolences may be sent to the Slagle family via www.morrisbaker.com. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Mrs. Slagles memory to The Washington County Animal Shelter, The Red Cross Haitian Relief Fund or The American Cancer Society.
