Roy D. Scott, 84, of Watauga, died Monday, September 2, 2013 at the James H. Quillen V.A. Medical Center. He was a native and life long resident of Watauga and a son of the late Hubert Lawrence and Clara Edith Shell Scott. Mr. Scott was a U. S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the 45th Infantry Division, fought in the Choron Valley in the Iron Triangle, and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. Like many veterans of the greatest generation, he spoke little for many years about his service experience and decorations. He was a life member of VFW Post 9629. Although his true passion in life was farming, he was a proud structural steel worker for forty-three years, working on bridges, buildings, and other structures. He was a member of the Iron Workers Union Local #384 for over fifty-five years. Mr. Scott attended the Watauga First Baptist Church. For over fifty years, he was a member of the Watauga Lodge F & AM #622. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Grace Carty. Survivors include: his wife of sixty years, Doris Church Scott, of the home; son, Mark Scott, and his wife Melanie, of Watauga; daughter, Cindy Bogart, and her husband Bryon, of Johnson City; two grandchildren, Whitney Bogart, of Columbia, SC, and Weston Bogart, of Johnson City; three sisters, Florence Hodge, of Watauga, Marjory Hodge, of Johnson City, and Louise Harwood, of Johnson City; brother-in-law, Herman Church and friend Sharon Raye, of Johnson City, and sister-in-law, Myrtle Cross, and her husband Bill, of Piney Flats, and several nieces and nephews.
