Mr. Roy H. Meade, 94, died Thursday, December 1, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Pound, Virginia, on Christmas Day, 1916, and later moved to Johnson City where he received his formal education as a graduate of the Johnson City Business College and chose his life-long career in the business world at General Shale Products Corporation. Mr. Meade gained his expertise in his many years of business experience with General Shale Products Corporation, where he rose through the corporate ranks to become President. Being recognized as a leader, he has served as a member and officer of many professional, community, civic, and social organizations including member of Administrative Management Society, member of National Association of Accountants; member of Brick Institute of America; member of Expanded Shale, Clay and Slate Institute; Director and Chairman of the Advisory Director of American Mutual Liability Insurance Company, member and former Treasurer of Johnson City/ Washington County Area Chamber of City Medical Center Foundation; Trustee of Johnson City Eye Hospital Foundation; member of Elks Club, Rotary Club, Director of National Association of Manufacturers; and a member of Tacoma Church of God. Roy was also chosen 'Boss of the Year'? by the Tri Cities Chapter of the National Secretaries Association. Roy and his wife worked diligently with the Civitan Club. He was elected to the Board of Directors of Hamilton National Bank, Johnson City, in 1969 and served as an outstanding, involved, and energetic, member of the Board as well as a vigorous leader as Chairman of the Banks Audit Committee and as a member of the Finance Committee and the Compensation and Planning Committee. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Winnie Stanley Meade; wife, Myrtle Linville Meade; three sisters, Gertie Baker, Thettie Robinson, and Trula Coxe; and three brothers, Lexie, Garcia, and Joseph Carl Meade. He is survived by his two daughters, Sandra Meade Garber and husband Joel of Knoxville and Judith Meade of Johnson City; sisters Annette Hylton of Pound, VA and Lettie Parris of E. Lake Weir, FL; brother JC Meade and wife Lois of Limestone; grandchildren Karen Garber Kochhar of Los Angeles, California and Scott Garber of Denver, Colorado; and two great grandchildren, Kiran Kochhar of Knoxville and Neil Kochhar of Los Angeles, California. Memorials may be made to the donors choice of charity. The family will receive friends, Monday, from 1-2pm, at Morris Baker Funeral Home with the service following at 2pm, in the South Chapel. Burial will immedialty follow at Monte Vista Memorial Park.
