Life is fragile- Handle with prayer. Mrs. Ruby Frye Adkins, 90, of Johnson City, passed Tuesday, June 2, 2015, in the NHC HealthCare Center. Mrs. Adkins was a Johnson City native. She was the daughter of the late William Edward and Jennie Davenport Frye. Mrs. Adkins retired from the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a member of University Parkway Baptist Church and active in her Fidelis Sunday School Class. She was a loving mother and ?Nanny' and placed God first in her life, being an active prayer warrior for all. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, James Walter Adkins; stepmother, Ruth Hathaway Frye; two brothers; and three sisters. Survivors include: three daughters, Patricia Phipps and her husband Jim, Judy Hall and her husband John, and Martha Shanks and her husband Tom; one son, John Michael Adkins and his wife Brenda; one sister-in-law, Edna Frye; seven grandchildren, Michael Lee Hall, Jennifer Hall, Chuck Phipps, Stephen Phipps, Jeremy Shanks, Adam Shanks, and Megan Adkins; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family of Mrs. Ruby Frye Adkins will receive friends from 10 to 11 AM Friday, June 5, 2015, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 11 AM with Rev. Rusty Wishon and Dr. Michael Oaks officiating. Gil Moody will provide music. The graveside committal service will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to express a special thank you to the NHC HealthCare staff and Caris Hospice for the special care given to their mother.
