Ruth C. Holben, 95, of 2012 Sherwood Drive, Johnson City died Thursday, April 2, 2009 in the Appalachian Christian Village. Mrs. Holben was a native of Turtle Creek, PA and had lived in Johnson City since 1970. She was a daughter of the late John Frank and Mabel E. Park Hannum. Mrs. Holben received her Education Degree from the Akron University in 1936. She taught grades three and four in the Akron, Ohio and later in the Allen Park, Michigan schools. Mrs. Holben began teaching Sunday School at age 18. She helped various Christian Churches in Michigan to establish childrens ministries. She also taught for many years at Kiamichi Christian Mission, a family camp. Mrs. Holben was a member of the Oak Grove Christian Church and taught an Adult Sunday School Class and also lead the Childrens Church Ministry for over thirty years. She is preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Wilbur G. Holben in 1991; one son, Donald Lee Holben in 1990; and two brothers, Eugene Hannum and Harry Hannum. Survivors include: one grandson, David and wife Pamela Holben of Johnson City; one granddaughter, Michelle and husband Jeff Moody of St. Louis, MO; one daughter-in-law, Mignon Mayfield Holben of Johnson City; six great grandchildren, Zachary Moody, Courtney Moody, Jesse Moody, Jaden Moody and Ashlyn Moody, all of St. Louis, MO and Henry Holben of Johnson City; several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Ruth C. Holben will be conducted at 2 PM Monday, April 6, 2009 in the Morris-Baker North Chapel. Robert Shannon, Minister, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Washington County Memory Gardens. Active pallbearers will be men of the Oak Grove Christian Church. The family will receive friends in the Morris-Baker North Chapel from 12 Noon to 2 PM Monday, prior to the service.
