Ruth Crowder Henry, of Johnson City, died July 29, 2011 at the Christian Care Center of Johnson City. She was a native of Athens, TN, who had lived all of her adult life in Johnson City. She was a daughter of the late Rev. I. G. Crowder and Maude W. Crowder. Mrs. Henry was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a mother, homemaker, and retired employee of the acquisition department of Sherrod Library, ETSU. She was a life-long athlete and sports fan. She played basketball for the 1938 Sulphur Springs High School ladys team that went to the state tournament. She was active in the Johnson City Bowling Association and Tennessee State Womens Bowling Association for many years, and travelled across the country to compete in amateur tournaments. She was an avid and loyal fan of the Tennessee Volunteers and the Atlanta Braves. Mrs. Henry loved playing bridge with her friends, and spending time with her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Henry was preceded in death by: her husband, John Henry; three sisters, Jesse Marshall, Dorthy Good, and Juanita Beals; and one brother, Earl Crowder. Survivors include: daughter, Kem H. Mckee, and her husband, Tom, of Johnson City; son, Doug Henry, and his wife, Jamie, of Johnson City; brother, Jim Crowder, and his wife, Belle, of Piney Flats; sister, Issy Jones, and her husband, Jack, of Unicoi; grandson, Matthew Bolton, and his wife, Donna, Johnson City; granddaughter, Holly Bolton Rainey, Johnson City; two great-granddaughters, Dru and Reece Rainey, of Johnson City; two great-grandsons, Henry and Joseph Bolton, of Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews. The family of Ruth Crowder Henry will receive friends from noon until 2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM from the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. James Bennington and Rev. Bethany Douty will officiate. Pallbearers will be: Scott Jones, Larry Good, Matt Bolton, Kent Hyder, John Moore, and Jeff Crowder. Following the funeral services, family and friends will proceed to Happy Valley Memorial Park for graveside services. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142, or Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 225 Princeton Road, Johnson City, TN 37601-2052.
