Ruth Hopson Carr

April 7, 1927 — October 18, 2018

Ruth Hopson Carr, 91, formerly of Johnson City, went to be with Jesus on October 18, 2018, after an extended illness. Even in her later days, she sang to the Lord and knew she would be received by Him. She was a lifelong resident of Washington County, daughter of the late Rex and Mary Watson Hopson. She was a graduate of Boones Creek High School. She retired from her work for the city of Johnson City in 1978 after 30 years serving as secretary to the City Recorder. Mrs. Carr was a member of East Pine Grove Park United Methodist Church where she served as treasurer and secretary of the United Methodist Women. She served as a hostess and volunteered at God?s Corner. She loved to spend time with her grand-dogs, always calling them her friends and sneaking them treats. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Olen ?Scooter' Carr. Surviving are her Son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Kelley Carr; grand-dogs, Abby and Lacy; as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Renee Parsons, who took excellent care of Mrs. Carr for several years throughout her illness. She was more than just a caregiver, she was a friend and companion, and Mrs. Carr enjoyed their appointments, outings, and shopping trips. The family of Ruth Hopson Carr will receive friends on Sunday, October 21, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at River of Life Baptist Church, 819 Austin Springs Road, Piney Flats, TN. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM, officiated by Rev. Donnie Humphrey. A committal service will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018, at 11:00 AM at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Friends and family are asked to gather at the graveside by 10:50 AM. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends, with the men of East Pine Grove Park UMC serving as honorary pallbearers.
