Sally Muse Kohn

Sally Muse McKinney Kohn passed away peacefully, Monday, September 24, 2023, in Franklin, TN, with family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a native of Johnson City and attended Science Hill High School and got her B.S. in Education from East Tennessee State University.

She taught for many years at Jonesboro Elementary, Boones Creek Elementary and Liberty Bell Jr. High School. After retiring from teaching, she and her late spouse Tom Kohn founded Leading Edge Land Services in Orlando, Florida, where she was still an active owner in the company.

Sally resided outside of Nashville, in Thompson’s Station for the last 14 years where she enjoyed volunteering with schools, delivering Meals on Wheels, watching UT and Packers football and cultivating and nurturing her bluebirds, hummingbirds and any other critter that happened upon her backyard oasis. She loved her neighborhood community of friends and her family at CrossFit Goose Creek.

Sally is survived by: her children, Matt McKinney (Denise) and Melonee Hurt (Eric); stepchildren, Bridget (James) Hawley, Robert (Melissa) Kohn, Richard Kohn and Angie Ritti, Laura (Chuck) VanBaalen, Ryan (Desiree) Kohn; grandchildren, Ethan and Emma McKinney and Maddie Hurt; step-grandchildren Caitlin, JJ and McKenna Hawley, Brady and Jax Kohn, Kismet, Karisma and Trinity Kohn and Serena and Charlie VanBaalen.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Thelma “Suze” and Mayland “Ducky” Muse; brothers, Mayland Hunter “Johnny” Muse Jr., Michael Grady “Mickey” Muse, and William “Bill” Muse; and spouses, Eddie McKinney and Tom Kohn.

The family of Sally Muse McKinney Kohn will receive friends Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Morris-Baker Funeral Home in Johnson City. A brief graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Rev. Paul Helphinstine will officiate. Pallbearers will be: Bobby Muse, Mike Muse, Jeff Goebel, Wexler Muse, Jared Muse, and Scott Cairnes.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Sally’s memory to the Williamson Medical Center Foundation, 4321 Carothers Parkway, Suite 603, Franklin, TN 37067.
