Sam Kaye Tuell, age 63, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many died Monday, September 20, 2010 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was born in Washington County, Virginia a son of the late John Robert Tuell and Carrie Johnson Tuell. Mr. Tuell was a proud veteran of the United States Army 101st Airborne Division having served in Vietnam. He was a member of Downtown Christian Church where he served as a Teacher of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. Mr. Tuell was managing director for 31 years at Holston Valley Credit Union. His leadership and dedication allowed the Credit Union to flourish, and also enriched the lives of those he had the pleasure of serving. He is survived by his wife, Betty Shell Tuell; proud parent of 2 children, Mitch Tuell and wife Dawn and Jon Tuell; beloved grandfather to Ashley and Ethan Tuell all of Johnson City; one sister, Linda Streight and husband Roger of Johnson City; two brothers, Edgar Tuell and wife June and John Tuell and wife Peggy both of Bristol, VA; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 22, 2010 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm in the Morris Baker South Chapel. The funeral service for Mr. Sam Kaye Tuell will follow at 7pm with Dr. Eddie Fine and Dick Morris officiating. An entombment and committal service will be held Thursday morning, September 23, 2010 at 11am in the Washington County Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the Employees and Board Members of the Holston Valley Credit Union, Downtown Christian Church Willing Workers Sunday School Class, Dr. Jaishankar and Dr. Victor Sulkawski. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Southern Appalachian Ronald McDonald House, 418 N. State of Franklin Road, Johnson City, TN 37604 or to Downtown Christian Church, 335 E. Main Street, Johnson City, TN 37601.
