Samuel Rankin Preston left us to join his maker Friday, October 31, 2014 at his home. We are saddened to have lost him, but we rejoice in the memories he left us. Sam was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City, and was a son of Sam and Sarah Preston. Sam graduated from Science Hill High School in 1983 and received a degree in marketing from ETSU in 1988. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. As a teen, Sam joined the family business, Preston Woodworking, and served as CEO at the time of his passing. He was a member of the Association of General Contractors and the Hurstleigh Club. Sam grew up in the church and attended St. Marys Catholic Church. His interests were numerous including: cattle, vintage games, gardening, and antiques. Sam never met a stranger, always had a story, and was always willing to help. For these reasons and many more we love and miss him. In addition to his parents, Sam is survived by: his wife, Caroline Dossett Preston; three daughters, Amelia, Rachel, and Gracie; in-laws, Tom and Veda Dossett; and two brothers, John and David Preston.
