Sara Saylor Torbett, 86, of Piney Flats, died Friday, March 6, 2020 at The Courtyards Senior Living, Johnson City.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Piney Flats and a daughter of the late George and Amy Saylor.
She was a graduate of Mary Hughes school and Emory and Henry College.
As a member of Piney Flats United Methodist Church, she enjoyed singing in the church choir for many years. She also served others in need by baking homemade bread for families, visitors, and shut-ins.
In addition to her parents, Sara was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Edward Lavon Torbett, and her brother, Wayne Saylor.
Survivors include: two sons, Brad and Bryan Torbett, daughter, Kara Politz, sister, Betty Gouge, and her husband Earl, and five grandchildren, Tyler, Amy Jo, Rayne, Lydia, and Eli.
The family of Sara Saylor Torbett will receive friends Monday, March 9, 2020, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Piney Flats United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow in the church sanctuary at 2:00 pm Monday with Rev. Paul Humphrey officiating. Following the funeral service, family and friends will gather at Shell Cemetery for committal services.
