Selma Maltsberger

July 10, 1925 — January 10, 2015

Selma Franklin Maltsberger, 89, of Johnson City, died Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native of Marshall, NC, a daughter of the late Blanco and Bessie Bishop Franklin. Selma was an educator, having served as Biology and English teacher at both Lynnview High School in Kingsport and Science Hill High School in Johnson City then served as Principal at Southside Elementary for 17 years. Selma was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church. She attained her education, a Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree from George Peabody College and East Tennessee State Teachers College. In addition to her parents, her first husband, Blanco Lewis and her second husband Basil Maltsberger; her sister Geneva Robinson; four brothers, L. B., Cline, Everett and Roy Burrell Franklin all preceded her in death. Survivors include: her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Bobbi Maltsberger of Knoxville; her daughter and son-in-law, Glennis And Don Bassi of McMinnville; two grandchildren, Hali and Hunter Maltsberger of Knoxville; a brother-in-law, J. B. Robinson of Kingsport; three sisters-in-law, Patsy and Nancy Franklin both of Kingsport and Betty Franklin of Nashville; a special niece, Vickie Harris of Kingsport and special friends, C. B. and Mary Kinch of Johnson City; several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the Morris '? Baker Funeral Home from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm. A funeral service will follow at 6:00 pm in the Morris '? Baker chapel under the direction of Pastor Louis Imsande. A committal service will be conducted on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at the Monte Vista Memorial Park at 11:00 am. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 am. Memorials may be made to: the Basil Maltsberger Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund, in memory of Selma Maltsberger, c/o ETSU Foundation, P. O. Box 70712, Johnson City, TN 37614. Honorary pallbearers will be: the Classes of 1950-53 at Lynn View High School the Classes of 1960-62 at Science Hill High School; honorable mention to: teachers, staff, parents and students at South Side Elementary.
